Trick and treaters will be free to roam as Hallowe'en falls on the weekend this year. Here are some ghoulish goings-on, sophisticated alternatives and activities for the kids.

1. Knightmare Live: Level Two – Saturday

Hampshire Chronicle:

Winchester Theatre Royal will be guided through a cavalcade of monsters and puzzles in this adaptation of the cult children's TV show. The adventure begins at 8pm and tickets start at £14.

2. Frozen singalong spectacular at Winchester Discovery Centre – Saturday

Hampshire Chronicle:

Children, parents and cartoon-crazy adults can join characters from Disney's smash hit Frozen to sing along to one of the most successful family films of all time. Tickets cost £12.50 and doors open at 6pm. Also on at the Mayflower, Southampton.

3. Bishop's Waltham Pumpkin Parade and fireworks night - Saturday

Hampshire Chronicle:

Pumpkins designed by town children will be lit up as real lanterns and paraded to the Hoe Park Recreation Ground ahead of the annual fireworks display. Other festivities, starting at 6pm, include fairground rides, face painting and a barbecue. Tickets cost £5 (adults) or £4 (children) on the door.

4. Wicked at the Mayflower, Southampton - Friday and Saturday

There's no better time to experience what the Hampshire Chronicle this week described as a "spellbinding" West End show as it comes to Southampton. Seats range from £22.50 to £65.50 and can be bought here.

5. Book a table at Rick Stein's new restaurant (if you can) - all weekend

Winchester's newest celebrity chef opens his doors to the High Street today. Based at the former site of Jamie Oliver's Union Jacks, in The Broadway, it is the first of his restaurants to be opened outside of Cornwall.

6. Winchester Ramblers hike to Longparish - Sunday

Hallowe'en temperatures are at a record high right now, and trick-or-treaters can't touch you if you're miles away on a relaxing country walk. 7. Spencer Music Festival - all weekend

It's chamber music galore in the southern villages as Beethoven, Brahms and more come to Wickham and Bishop's Waltham. Tickets are £10 for adults and £6 for children.

8. Bob Cheevers and Stephen Doster's gig, Winchester - Saturday

9. Alresford Community Centre quiz night - Saturday

10. Tell the King what you're up to - all weekend
