DOZENS of Winchester dog lovers have been combing Micheldever Woods round the clock in wind, rain and darkness after a young miniature daschund went missing.

Bertie, who is black and tan and nine months old, ran off near the main car park on Sunday afternoon.

Owners Michael and Nicki Pudney, who own Enigma Hair Design salon in Winchester, say they have been bowled over by the sheer number of family, friends and clients who have braved winter storms to search for their daughters' beloved pet.

“There were 30 people out there last night in the pouring rain,” said Nicki.

“We're just overwhelmed by the sheer kindness of those we know - and some we don't. We really would do anything to get Bertie back. He's quite timid still because he's so young.”

The Pudney's contact details and a full description of Bertie, who is microchipped and tagged, are on http://www.doglost.com/.
