MEON Valley MP George Hollingbery is calling for churches to be allowed to replace lead roofs with modern materials.
With thieves targeting churches for the valuable lead, Mr Hollingbery raised the issue in the House of Commons.
He suggests English Heritage should relax the current guidance as it has already been done for solar panels.
Across the UK some 10 churches a day suffer from theft and insurance payouts for the theft of metal from places of worship have increased by 70 per cent.
