A HAMPSHIRE family want to find a mystery driver who drove their seriously ill son to hospital when their car got stuck on an icy road.

Five-year-old Leukaemia sufferer Calum Horrocks was being rushed to the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester by his dad Adam when their Volkswagen Golf got stuck in West Meon.

After pushing their car for almost half a mile Adam was told that an ambulance sent out to rescue them had turned back because the roads were too icy.

But while waiting for a 4x4 ambulance they managed to flag down a passing motorist who gave the pair a lift to the hospital.

Adam, 32, a gardener, of Garston Close, East Meon, said: "We want to thank him. It was very kind of him to do it and I don't know what we would have done without him.

"He was picking up his wife from the hospital. He refused money but I said I would take him down the local pub for a couple of pints as a thank you."

Calum, who is currently completing a course of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with leukaemia last March, had to be rushed to hospital after developing a dangerously high temperature last Tuesday.

Mum Sarah, 28, added: "We want to give him a thank you card from Calum because I was not there and I would like to say thank you to him. Had he not come along god knows how long they would have been there for."

The man is described as in his late 30s and talked about his two young twins, their older brother and sister. He drove a Volvo 4x4 vehicle and was wearing a baseball hat.

A hospital spokeswoman said: "It could have been an emergency. It was a lift-threatening situation if you get an infection when in chemotherapy."
