GOOD news for residents, bad news for drivers, mostly from elsewhere.

Winchester civic chiefs have been tweaking traffic orders following complaints from people about parking near their homes.

The city council has made eight orders designed to clampdown on inconsiderate parking.

Restrictions will be introduced on Church Street and Rook Lane, Micheldever, to make life easier for residents.

School staff park on the road after they were stopped parking on site.

One resident wrote to the city council: "Parking for residents on Church Street has become a real headache. Something needs to be done."

Another wrote: "Residents have suffered an absolute nightmare. Our road is treated as the school car park."

In Winchester the residents-only parking scheme that has been introduced across Winchester in the last 20 years have been advanced further into Stanmore.

Such controlled parking, where residents buy a permit for the right to park near their homes, has now been stretched up The Valley. Residents in nearby Octavia Hill did not want to be a part of it, said a council report.

In St Thomas and Symonds streets double yellow lines will be painted to stop obstructive parking.

In Langton Close, off Stockbridge Road, parking restrictions have been extended from 6pm to 10pm after complaints that customers of the nearby Roebuck pub were parking in the road.

In Colebrook Street double yellow lines will be painted. Locals were split with four letters of support and five objecting. Nine responses were received. Four in support of the proposals. Five objected on the grounds that it would remove their ability to park on the single yellow line after 6pm which they are often forced to do due to the limited on-street parking.

Temporary restrictions on Worthy Lane will be made permanent. Drivers were parking on the busy main road causing danger. Double yellow lines will be permanent.

Parking restrictions designed to curb student parking from Peter Symonds College will be extended to Mount Close.

Finally, at Mountbatten Court the disabled parking bays will become enforceable instead of being advisory following misuse.
