A CYCLIST suffered life-threatening injuries following a smash on a main road, police said today.

The 46-year-old man was in collision with a Ford Galaxy on the A32 in Soberton Heath between Budden's Lane and Kingsmead shortly after 4pm yesterday.

An air ambulance was called and landed at the scene and took him to Southampton General Hospital.

He is currently still in hospital where his condition is described as critical.

The road is closed in both directions following the collision and police say it is likely to be shut for some time.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

The driver of the silver Ford Galaxy was uninjured but was treated for shock by paramedics.

Investigations into the exact circumstances of the collision are ongoing and officers would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened.
