UPHAM residents campaigning to save their village shop have urged the parish council not to take it over.
The Upham Shop Action Group (USAG) wants to invite commercial buyers in order to avoid a moratorium on the sale.
Parish council interest in Lower Upham Stores would block the sale for six months due to its status as a community asset.
Lizzie Davidson, of USAG, said a sale in the public interest could be "prevented" by the moratorium being triggered.
The shop closed in May and was put on the market in September.
