KINGS Worthy residents are invited to have their say on the future of a doctors' surgery threatened with closure.

The Springvale Surgery in Pound Road could become a multi-practice medical centre or close entirely under options to be exhibited next Thursday, October 29.

Winchester district's three Friarsgate practices could share the facilities to secure the building's future, threatened last Christmas after a sudden closure lasting nearly a month.

County councillor Jackie Porter said: “All three Lib Dem councillors believe that Kings Worthy has the population and the needs for a medical centre in the community and urge all local residents to come along to see the possibilities which are being considered, whichever doctors' practice you use.

"I really appreciate the time that the Friarsgate team is spending on this proposal and the efforts they are going to, to ask the public what they think at this early stage. Now it's our turn to turn up and give our views.”

The ageing surgery, which serves 2,000 patients, was repaired earlier this year after fire and electrical safety issues forced its closure.

Repairs were said by Steve Tilbury, Winchester City Council's corporate director, to extend the building's life for three years.

The consultation is being held on Thursday October 29 in Tubbs Hall, Fraser Road, Kings Worthy, from 3pm to 8pm.
