A NEW club in Colden Common is aiming to bring new life to old courts.

The tennis club was set up just a few short months ago to promote fitness and a chance for people to socialise in the village.

Now group leaders want to raise money to improve tired old courts at the recreation ground.

The parish council has agreed to lease the courts and the plan is to raise money to refurbish the existing courts and build a third.

A fundraising day will be held on September 6, from 10am-3pm, at the ground to raise funds and awareness for the club.

Amanda James, of the Colden Common Tennis Club Committee said: “The Parish Council have pledged to give us £20,000 towards the costs but we need to raise a further £50,000. We encourage people to support this event and help raise funds for our future club.”

There will be two former Davis Cup players providing coaching clinics in the morning, which can be booked via Gary Waughman. A 40 minute session costs £10 per adult, £5 for children. There will also be a serve speed test at £2 per person, a bouncy castle, barbecue, tombola auction and more.
