RESIDENTS in Shawford have criticised Hampshire County Council for relying on cattle to keep Shawford Down clear.
At a recent parish council meeting, Mrs Wilkinson said Hampshire County Council’s management of the Down continued to attract concern.
Parish councillors agreed that Myra Wilkinson and Angela Jeffrey would ask the Countryside Service department to provide a cost analysis of using cattle against manual labour and machinery.
The council also noted the area cleared last autumn and again in spring and produced and abundance of wild flowers but that the continual growth would call for volunteers to help with conservation works.
Anyone interested in volunteering should contact the parish clerk, David Drake, by emailing clerk@compton.parish.hants.gov.uk.
