A FILM telling the ancient history of the Meon Valley from the skies has been adopted at Hampshire primary schools.

Key Stage 2 pupils across the county have been watching The Meon Valley: a Journey of Discovery to learn about the area's heritage, from the Iron Age to Romans, Saxons and the Second World War.

The film, released in October, used a drone to capture aerial footage of the valley and its geographical features, combined with ground video of churches and villages.

It was the brainchild of Corhampton's Friends of the Saxon Church, who have held classroom visits and drone demonstrations.

Patricia Hannam, Hampshire inspector and advisor for religious education and history, said, “The DVD is beautifully filmed. It's an excellent resource for teachers to watch themselves to get inside the layered landscape that is the Meon Valley."

Adrian Moss, director of film producers Focus Business Communications said: “This was a great project to work on with a lot of research and fact checking. We had amazing help from academics across the UK and from local communities.

“With over one hour of video, 100 images and maps it provides a great resource.”

The DVD will also be stocked in Hampshire's Central Library, Winchester's tourist information centre and smaller Meon Valley libraries. It is also part of an exhibition at Titchfield Haven National Nature Reserve Visitor Centre.

Profits from sales go to local charities, schools and heritage groups.
