WINCHESTER school children have raised money for the air ambulance which helped save the life of one of their classmates.

Twyford School boy five-year-old Jacobi was knocked down by a car a few months ago, seeing members of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance despatched to the incident.

Now Twyford pre-school pupils have handed over a cheque to the paramedics for £3,628.65 after going on a sponsored walk.

Over 130 children aged three to seven, walked 20 laps of the school's running track in order to raise the funds.

Marketing manager for the school, Samantha White, said: "The HIOWAA arrived within 10 minutes of being called, bringing with it a dedicated and professional pair of paramedics who immediately sort to take control of stabilising Jacobi's condition and making him as comfortable as possible.

"Their attention to every detail was superb together with keeping his spirits up and monitoring his condition as they travelled to Southampton.

"The paramedics then skilfully handed over to the A&E staff at Southampton General Hospital and thus ensured that none of the critical time of the first hour was lost. We should all be proud to support this exemplary charity whom perform such a wonderful and often life changing service."
