A TRADITIONAL school fete wouldn't be complete without a splash of rain - but that wasn't going to put people off at Harestock.

Hundreds of children and parents turned up to see the primary school field awash with colour on Saturday.

There was much fun to be had on the bouncy slide, obstacle course and tug of war, as well as the variety of stalls with everything from a beauty parlour to books and sweets.

The queue at the barbecue seemed never-ending.

Cllr Angela Clear, Mayor of Winchester, opened the fete, shortly followed by karate kids doing what they do best.

The football squad and street dancers showed off their skills and there was a rousing performance of Heather Small's hit tune Proud by the Harestock Community Choir.

Every so often there would be an almighty clatter from the crockery smash, or one of the emergency service vehicles would pump their siren.

Following the success of last year's 'Bake-Off', the fete also included art, photography and handwriting competitions.

It was put on by the Friends of the School and Lynn Ingram, chair, said the atmosphere was buzzing.

"Last year we made £5,000 and we are hoping this year we make a similar amount," she said.

"Everything we raise is spent on equipment or experiences for the children."

The school recently spent £12,000 on outdoor equipment, which Ms Ingram said has revolutionised the play area.

Local businesses also did their bit by sponsoring the fete and providing over 40 raffle prizes.
