SPORTS club members and their friends have raised more than £11,000 for charity by cycling 78 miles.

The group of 30, from Sparsholt Cricket Club, started at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London and travelled back to the Norman Edwards Ground.

They were greeted there by family and friends, who put on a barbeque with a live band. There were also two matches from the club’s youth section.

Lucian Cook, Sparsholt Cricket Club’s Sunday captain, came up with the idea for the fundraiser.

“Thank you to everyone for making the day so successful – it was a massive team effort, great for the club and great for the charities,” he said.

Both Chance to Shine, which spreads the power of cricket through schools and communities, and The Haven Breast Cancer Support Centres, will benefit.

The event was sponsored by Cala Homes and Savills South Coast Residential Development.
