BUS volunteers in the Meon Valley scrubbed up after a local coach firm opened the doors to its industrial car wash.

Volunteers at Meon Valley Lions Club have been ferrying elderly and vulnerable people to clubs and bars in the area for decades.

They used to spend as much time cleaning their bus as driving it thanks to muddy lanes in rural areas.

Now coach provider Lucketts Travel has given access to its industrial bus-washer in Fareham, saving time and effort for the club.

John Sharpe, the Lions’ bus service manager, said: “Access to the bus wash facility is saving our members dozens of hours each month. Now that we no longer have to hand wash the vehicle, we can commit our valuable time to our core activities of fund-raising and providing various forms of community support.”

Ian Luckett said: “The Lions do a great job in the local community and we were really pleased to be able to support them in this way to help them carry out their valuable work.”

The group ferries around 1,200 journeys every year to older and disabled people.
