A CHURCH in Droxford which risks falling into disrepair has won tens of thousands of pounds to kick-start its regeneration.
St Mary’s and All Saints Church was given £33,900 by the Heritage Lottery Fund to address problems including beetle infestation and damaged stonework – and it could win even more cash next year.
The Norman building was added to English Heritage’s register of threatened buildings last month.
The grant will pay for consultants to study the church and recommend repairs. Next year the Heritage Lottery could award an additional £200,000 for carry out extensive repairs and new facilities including a heritage centre, toilets and a kitchen.
John Symes, chairman of Friends of Droxford Church, said he was “delighted” with the grant.
