“KINGS Worthy cannot take anymore” – that was the sentiment of scores of villagers as they viewed proposals for up to 50 new homes.

The city council and developer HAB Housing showed ideas for building off Lovedon Lane at an exhibition on Monday.

Villagers say they fear it will take too much space from recreation ground Eversley Park.

One Springvale Road resident, who asked not to be named, said building there would be a “travesty”.

She said: “They should just leave Kings Worthy alone. We have had so much development here and I have had enough. That park is one of the best things here. How much more is Kings Worthy about to take? Enough is enough.”

David Woolford, a land surveyor, of Sycamore Drive, said: “I understand we have to have housing. The infrastructure of Kings Worthy won’t take much more.”

Winchester City Council’s head of planning Steve Opacic was present, as was parish council chairman Stuart Newell, and parish council chair of planning and highways Ian Gordon.

Mr Gordon said: “The main thing is that there was something circulated which misled people to think that the football pitch was going, but none of that was cast in stone and not sent round by any of us.”

Last month Mr Newell said: “The parish council would not have supported any scheme which adversely affected the excellent sporting and fitness facilities that exist there.”

The parish council voted to support building off Lovedon Lane earlier this year.

The exhibition comes after a noisy meeting last month with an alternative developer, Drew Smith, which wants to build on land off Hookpit Farm Lane, known as Top Field.

Under the city council’s Local Plan Part Two 250 homes are required in Kings Worthy by 2031, and 22 are yet to be allocated.
