A GOOD neighbours group near Winchester is urgently calling for more volunteers.

Twyford Good Neighbours is hosting its AGM on Monday and is calling for anyone and everyone to go along.

The former Twyford Care Group, which runs on-request car lifts for village residents and home-cooked food every six weeks, hosts the meeting at the parish hall from 2.30pm.

Chairman Jane Beljic said: “Coming along to the AGM is not about pressing people to join a committee or commit to hours of voluntary work, but unless a few more villagers step forward we may not be able to keep going. The AGM is a way of communicating to villagers what we do. Some moral support would be fantastic.

“We are in need of some extra help. Driving for us usually means one local journey every three weeks or so and the more drivers we have, the less often you will need to drive! Being a driver can be rewarding and fun. Most of our customers have lived in the village for years and have interesting stories to tell. We have a good group of drivers, but we could do with some 'new blood'.

“Running the lunches is very worthwhile but we still need help with this. It may be that you only choose to help out at one lunch, which means giving up just three hours per year.

“I would like to think that come the day through age or accident I can't get out and about, that the GN service is still there so, think about helping us, it is a small commitment for a big benefit to our customers and one day, the customer might be you.”
