WORKS have begun to replace street lights in a parish near Winchester.

Hampshire County Council have started replacing some of Colden Common’s lights to make way for modern eco-friendly technology.

The new lights will have a reduced amount of carbon emissions, and can be dimmed by 25 per cent between 12am-5am through a centrally-located control.

The so-called ‘white lights’ are claimed to improve visibility and will have less of an impact on light pollution.

The move has pushed Colden Common Parish Council to consider replacing 101 of its lights.
