RESIDENTS in Colden Common have been sowing seeds aplenty in time to mark the anniversary of World War One.

Volunteers from around the village came together to sow the poppy seeds in time to commemorate the First World War at the sensory garden – an area specifically designed to mark the occasion.

The small brick-walled area is now surrounded by brightly-coloured red poppies, of all different shapes and sizes, as are a number of other locations across the village.

Maureen Rees, one of the organisers, said: “We received a grant from Hampshire County Council to sew poppies and hold an exhibition, which will take place in August. Volunteers, both private and on behalf of groups scattered the seeds.

“A lot have not come up, that's poppies for you, but enough have to make this wonderful show.”
