AS THEY prepare their costumes and practise their lines, there is no doubt that The Worthy Players are looking forward to their next big performance.

Following the success of their Christmas pantomime, Old Mother Hubbard, the London Road based amateur dramatics group are gearing up for their spring production, The Militants.

Set in 1908, the play, by Norman Holland, follows the movement of a Suffragette group in the small Lancashire town of Metringham, and how they turn the tables to make police and politicians appear foolish and confounded.

The director, cast, set-builder, wardrobe and lighting teams have all been hard at work preparing for the performances at Jubilee Hall, and the dress rehearsal was held last Wednesday (April 16).

Member of eleven years, Clare Walker, plays a Suffragette, and said she is looking forward to it despite the pre-show jitters.

“Like any production that is going live in under a week I have a bit of nerves, but I am sure it will be alright on the night,” she said.

“It’s been quite fun doing a play where the women get the comeuppance over the men.” The first show is Friday April 25, and then April 26, May 2 and May 3, all at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £7, or £6 for concessions, and are available using the free online booking system at theworthyplayers.co.uk, or by calling the Box Office on 07599 981922.
