FOR the second year running, a Sparsholt College student has won the ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) National Student Climbing Championship which took place at the 2008 Celebration of Trees at Capel Manor College, North London.
The competition is judged on safety, technical standards and speed in various tree climbing disciplines. Tom Bunday (18), studying the BTEC National Diploma in Arboriculture was presented with the winner's trophy and commemorative wood-turned bowl.
In second overall place was another Sparsholt student David Ward (19) who is studying the first year of the Foundation Degree in Arboriculture. Tamara Bridge (20), studying the National Diploma in Arboriculture at Sparsholt, came second overall in the women's contest.

The colleges competing were Capel Manor, Merrist Wood, Moulton, Myerscough and Sparsholt, who each entered a team of five students.
Sparsholt's team were sponsored by ForestandArb.com and trained by instructor Justin Palmer and lecturer Mark Tansley.
Justin Palmer said: "The students performed fantastically over the weekend, absolutely dominating the competition. To win the college trophy for a second year running is a great achievement and shows the dedication of the students and teaching staff here at Sparsholt College."
