Naomi House Hospice is hoping a thousand people will take part in a major fundraising walk from Winchester Cathedral to Salisbury.
The annual Clarendon Walk is on Sunday June 6 in Winchester Cathedral and takes walkers along a countryside route to finish at the cathedral in Salisbury.
People taking part can choose between a 12-mile route and a 26-mile route, and more than 150 walkers have already signed up to.
Last year, 975 people helped raise more than £165,000 for the hospice, and organisers are hoping to increase that this year to go towards the £5million annual running costs.
Events co-ordinator Katrina McDuff said: “We’re delighted with the level of support the walk has gained so far. We have more walkers signed up than this time last year but in order to reach our target of 1,000 walkers we need those interested to complete their registration forms and send to us as soon as they can.
“This is a great personal challenge and an opportunity to make a real difference by raising vital funds for Naomi House and its new Jack’splace.
“With two hospices to run and less than 15 per cent funding coming from the Government and other statutory bodies, we need our supporters’ help at events like this more than ever.”
This year’s event is sponsored by Foresters, MITIE and the pupils and staff at St Swithun’s Junior School in Winchester, so all money raised will go directly to the hospice.
