CHOPS, blocks and kicks were showcased as a new karate club launched in Winchester.

The Eastleigh Dojo Club decided to expand into the city to revive the discipline and will hold weekly classes every Saturday.

A dozen club members put on a demonstration at Winchester Lido for potential new recruits to see the martial art at first hand.

“We’re keen to resurrect shotokan karate in Winchester, there used to be a good presence but it has dwindled over the years,” said club secretary Pete Houldsworth. “Karate is about learning self respect and self confidence, especially for children.”

The club is open to all ages and abilities. Call 07900 262 721 for more information.
