Hampshire army cadets get new honorary colonel

HAMPSHIRE Army cadets have a new Honorary Colonel, Nigel Atkinson, who has taken over from Dame Mary Fagan the Lord Lieutenant.

Mr Atkinson, who is the vice-lord lieutenant of Hampshire, was a cadet himself during his school days and served in the Royal Green before a career in business.

Now a director of several companies, he lives in Petersfield with wife Christine and daughter, Rosie, who is currently studying at university.

He said: “Coming back into cadets is exciting I had such a good time during my school days and it gives you a great start in life.

“There is no doubt that it gave me the inspiration to join the army which in turn gave me excellent skills for my life since.

“I’m looking forward to getting round the county and meeting the youngsters and their adult instructors.”
