PUPILS at a Winchester school went back in time to learn about life during the Second World War.
Youngsters at All Saints’ School, in Highcliffe, enjoyed cucumber sandwiches and scones at a tea party and then took to the dance floor to perform a jive in front of parents.
The day, which included youngsters gathering in a mock air-raid shelter, involved all pupils, but marked the end of Year 6’s project on the war.
Major Ron Cassidy, a Highcliffe resident and former curator of Winchester’s Royal Green Jackets Museum, helped organise the event.
“It’s important that children remember the war,” said head teacher, Nicky Osborne. “And if they’re studying it, it’s important they meet as many people as possible who were alive during the time.”
