Cleaning up their estate...literally

3:49pm Wednesday 8th July 2009

RESIDENTS are planning to clean up their Hampshire estate with a series of litter-picks.

The group, started by the South Stanmore Residents’ Association in Winchester, is now looking for extra volunteers.

Led by Ann Silvester, they are planning to meet outside the shops in Wavell Way at 10.30am on Saturday, September 12.

The group plans to pick litter for one hour, and then make it a regular thing on the second Saturday of each month.

Litter was one of the issues raised by the residents’ association at its most recent meeting on Tuesday (July 7).

Ernie Nunn, who chairs the group, told those gathered at the Carroll Youth Centre that they were making a list of all the improvements needed.

They included tighter parking controls, providing more benches, smartening up bus stops and reducing litter.

Association members are now planning regular ‘walkabouts’, possibly with Winchester City Council officers, to identify what other issues need attention.
