A YOUTH centre in Winchester will be officially re-opened as The Carroll Centre, a Sure Start Children’s Centre, on Saturday December 13.
The community facility, based in Somers Close, Winchester, will be officially opened by Mayor of Winchester, Cllr Michael Read, between 1-4pm.
Entertainment for children and families will include circus skills and balloon modelling, drum for fun, arts and crafts workshops, face painting, music with mummy, party games, a Christmas lucky dip and the making of a mosaic to commemorate the event.
The Carroll Children’s Centre is one of 85 children’s centres being created across the county by Hampshire County Council with funding from the Government’s Sure Start scheme.
The Carroll Centre will serve the communities of St Lukes, Badger Farm, Oliver’s Battery and St Cross, offering joined up services for families with children under five years old. This will include stay and play sessions for parents, carers and children, access to education and employment advice, and health initiatives.
Information stands from ACE, Peter Symmonds adult education centre, Connexions and the quit smoking service will be open throughout the day.
All families from the local area are welcome and the day will offer great opportunities to share views and ideas for what services are needed in their community.
