VILLAGERS near Alresford are suffering their second power cut in less than 24 hours.

Some 1,200 households in the Alresford, Cheriton, Kilmeston and Bramdean areas endured a cut at around 4pm on Sunday afternoon. It shut the busy petrol station at Meon Hut at the junction of the A272 and A32. Most power was restored within minutes but some had to wait to around 5.45pm.

This afternoon 199 homes in the Kilmeston area have also suffered an interruption to their supplies.

One villager in New Cheriton said: “Its so annoying. I’ve just bought a slow cooker and the first meal is now ruined.”

Southern Electric engineers are working to locate the fault.

A spokesman for Southern Electric said: “We apologise to our customers. We are doing everything we can to get to the bottom of the fault. We need to find out what it is.”
