TWO octogenarians from Owslebury will toast their diamond wedding anniversary tonight (Sunday).

Erich Hein, 84, and Gladys, 83, will be treated to a meal at a Chinese restaurant in Eastleigh, by their children.

The pair, who live in Hilly Close, first met in 1947 in Horsham, Sussex, where Mrs Hein was born. Mr Hein, a former German prisoner of war, was working on a farm in the area under the terms of his release. They married a year later on November 12.

They moved to the Winchester area at the end of the 1960s and Mrs Hein began a 16-year career working as a nurse at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital. Her husband continued his farming career by working at Longwood Estate.

"We agree together about everything and we don't quarrel," said Mrs Hein, talking about their secrets for staying together. "We just live happy and contented."

They have six children - Eric, Peter, Harold, Richard, Paul and Susan -, 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
