THE biker who died after an accident near Winchester on Monday (October 13) has been named.

Steven Wright, from Upham, was riding on a black motorcycle towards Morestead at around 3.25pm when he collided with a grey Nissan pick-up truck in Hazeley Road, about a mile east of Twyford.

The 52-year-old was rushed under police escort to Winchester's Royal Hampshire County Hospital but died of his injuries.

In a statement, his family said: "We are all devastated by this tragic event and are finding this situation and the circumstances extremely difficult to come to terms with.

"We have been overwhelmed by the support of so many people, which is helping to give us strength at this very upsetting time.

"Steve had many interests and lots of friends, who have been wonderful. We all have special memories and Steve will be sorely missed by all that were fortunate enough to have known him.

"Many thanks to everyone for their comforting words, which have been greatly appreciated."

The Nissan driver, a 48-year-old man from Alresford, was uninjured. He was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention and bailed until Tuesday, January 30, 2009.
