A CAKE sale in Winchester to raise money for Help for Heroes has raised around £3,000.
About 1,000 cakes were sold at the Brooks Centre and at St Maurice’s Covert.
The charity helps wounded servicemen injured in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Winchester was the location of the first Colossal Cake Sale three years ago and it has grown to 500 sales across the country.
Belinda Mitchell, one of the organisers, said: “It has been an extraordinarily successful day. It wouldn’t happen without the support of local people. All the cakes come from the Winchester district.
“There is a deep-seated need in the British public to support their troops,” she added.
