THEY have played the famous Cavern Club in Liverpool and now iremembertapes are coming home.

The Winchester band’s name stems from the golden age of cassettes and electronic bands of the 1980s.

Taking that movement as their foundation, the group has added elements of punk and modern dance for a 21st century sound.

The trio is led by Tom Ferry, who was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness but decided that wasn’t his calling in adulthood.

Instead, he left home and joined a hardcore punk band, before graduating to iremembertapes.

He is supported by Ben on bass and Alex on lead guitar, who is a music degree graduate with a metal background. He is also renowned for his extensive set of Japanese-themed tattoos.

The band’s bassist moved to Winchester from London to study art, and has an interest in vintage clothes and old-style projectors of all things.

The trio met for the first time at Greens wine bar in Jewry Street, Winchester, and formed the band in late 2010.

Their debut album, Human Architecture, was recorded last autumn and coincided with the Cavern Club gig.

They also released a single, Gossip, after signing with London-based record label, The Animal Farm.

Iremembertapes will be embarking on their latest tour next month (April) and it includes a gig on home turf.

They are due to perform at the Railway Inn, St Paul’s Hill, Winchester, on Friday, April 20.

Support will come from another group based in the city, electronic indie duo Capital X.

Shows in Cardiff, Leeds, Coventry and Birmingham are then planned for iremembertapes.
