COUNCIL chiefs have given the go-ahead to funding for improvements to public toilets in Wickham.
Winchester City Council’s cabinet members agreed to set aside £50,000 funding for the project, subject to satisfactory discussions with the Wickham Parish Council.
This comes after Cllr Therese Evans, who represents the area on the city council told a previous cabinet meeting that the toilets were in need of major repair.
At the time council leader Cllr George Beckett had said the council would look to repair the toilets should funding become available.
The funding was added to the budget and council tax recommendations for 2012/2013, which was approved by cabinet members.
The decision will now go to full council.
Portfolio holder for finance and estates, Cllr Keith Wood, said there had been suggestions with Wickham Parish Council over maintenance and before going ahead with the scheme the council would have to be clear about what it was going to do.
Following the meeting, he said £50,000 had been put in the budget, but details or the cost of the scheme had not yet been calculated.
