Winchester residents have donated 4,000 meals for people suffering from food poverty.

Customers at Sainsbury’s in both Badger Farm and Middle Brook Street donated food to the FareShare One Million Appeal last month, part of a nationwide drive to provide 1.2million meals for the needy.

Sainsbury’s retail and logistics Director, Roger Burnley, said: “Customers at Sainsbury’s Badger Farm and Winchester made a fantastic contribution to the ‘1 Million Meal Appeal’, helping us to generate a magnificent 1.2 million meals in total. Many of the UK’s most vulnerable people will now benefit from quality, nutritious meals provided by FareShare this Christmas.”

Lindsay Boswell, chief executive of charity FareShare, said: “Donating enough food to provide 4000 meals is a fantastic gesture from the people of Winchester. They have helped us to provide meals for even more of the area’s vulnerable people and we’d like to say thank you for all the help we have received through this food drive with Sainsbury’s”.
