IT was small but perfectly formed as the first Good Weekend festival was held at Woodmancott near Winchester.

Around 40 bands and DJs came from near and far to perform at Vicarage Farm on Friday (July 22) and Saturday.

Ticket numbers were strictly limited to 499 as the organisers only had a temporary licence for the new festival.

The group behind it, led by Gavin Davis, are now looking at whether it might become a regular event.

Speaking at the festival, marketing manager Bryony Morris said: “It’s been going really well and lots of people have already been asking us ‘what are you going to do next year?’ “Hopefully if it goes well this year then we might be able to do it again.”

The event, halfway between Woodmancott village and the M3, featured a main stage inside a marquee.

There was also a second smaller stage amongst a clump of trees with hay bales for seating.

Bands and DJs included Hot Fiction, Deadwax, JayetAl, Lula and the Lampshades, Virgin Soldiers, Rev Milo Speedwagon and Greco-Roman Soundsystem.

There was also a selection of stalls including wood-baked pizzas, clothing made from bamboo and a reflexology and massage tent.

With only some brief rain on the opening evening, the festival site and camping area avoided turning into a mudbath.

Organisers are now deciding whether to hold another event in Woodmancott, which also hosted the Blissfields festival earlier this summer.
