A NEW wine bar in Winchester has moved closer after city council planning chiefs gave their backing.
David Nicholson, who already owns the successful Black Boy pub and Black Rat restaurant, is the man behind the scheme.
The Black Bottle will aim to cater for wine drinkers in Winchester, and include up to five ‘wine rooms’.
It comes shortly after the restaurant in Chesil Street, a stone’s throw from the pub in Wharf Hill, heard that it was to receive a Michelin star.
The wine bar is due to be opened a quarter of a mile away in Bridge Street in a Grade-II listed building, which is currently empty.
The scheme came before Winchester City Council’s planning committee last Thursday (January 27) and members voted to back the project.
