Winchester Tourist Guides are launching a bigger and better programme for 2011.

Cllr Richard Izard and Cllr Barry Lipscomb, Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Winchester respectively, launched this year’s events on January 27.

The guides have expanded their 2011 service to more than 70 walks after a 40 per cent increase in participants last year.

Tours include the ‘Forgotten City’ walk in conjunction with the Discovery Centre, six Chesil tunnel tours, two free ‘lamplight’ tours in March and October, and the traditional Hallowe’en series in October.

Winchester BID are once again sponsoring the tours, and director Chris Turner said: “Winchester BID is very pleased to support Winchester's Tourist Guides in encouraging visitors to the city and residents alike, in spending more time here to appreciate why it is such a special place, for its heritage, culture, shops and entertainment.”
