Winchester PubWatch has been highly commended in the PubWatch of the Year awards.

It was only bettered by Rhyl in Wales who took the top accolade at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in London.

The crime reduction scheme which has been in operation for 10 years, and is co-ordinated by Winchester Business Improvement District.

Keith Wilson, of Winchester BID, said: “Winchester is an extremely safe place for a night out but it is only through a co-ordinated partnership approach to crime reduction that we are able to keep it this way.

Alex Vassilakis, of Porthouse nightclub, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been so successful in the awards. As licensees we all view active membership of PubWatch as key to maintaining safety in and around our venues.”
