HUNDREDS of Winchester homes were plunged into darkness for more than three hours this morning.
Southern Electric confirmed 1,400 properties - including around two-dozen city centre shops - lost electricity from 7.30am. Half the affected homes were reconnected shortly before 9am but hundreds of other residents had to wait until 10.45am.
As a result stores in Winchester High Street, St George's Street, Upper Brook Street and Parchment Street all had to close for most of the morning.
