Bag full was too heavy — for some
SIR - I would like to complain about the refuse collection men who failed to empty the green garden waste bag at my elderly parents home in Winchester.
The men said the green bag was too heavy, although my mother, who is 76, managed to bring it from the back of the garden to the front!
I am a lady in my 50s and I also managed to move it.
When she phoned to explain this, there was no help in correcting the problem, apart from her emptying it again - which I think is absolutely appalling.
I realise that some people may abuse this system, but I feel that given where she lives, a bungalow, and the fact that there is no signs of building, etc going on, that the men who left the green bag are just being extremely lazy.
Obviously she has no idea how much the bag weighed (we do know there is a limit) but really the size of the bag indicates how much goes in, and this green bag was not full. The bin men did not weigh it.
However, my partner has now taken it to the Winchester dump and emptied it - interesting to note that he has a replacement hip and artificial knee cap!

Elder Close,
