Crossing needed on busy road
SIR - May I invite any of those who live in Grange Close or Grange Road to write to the county council requesting the provision of a safe crossing of St Cross Road near their bus stop?
If use of the bus service is to be encouraged, then those who live in this area need to be able to cross this busy road.
Obviously they need to be able do so either on the outward journey or when returning.
The speed limit is currently 40 mph, therefore in the interest of road safety, a more secure crossing is needed, before a serious accident occurs.
One of the reasons given by the council for not providing a safer crossing is that a formula they use to justify a more protected crossing is not satisfied.
The formula is based, amongst other things, on the number of people actually crossing the road on one particular day.
It has been pointed out to the council that the road is not crossed by young and old alike for the very reason that it is too dangerous.
It is patently obvious that the formula, in this instance, is flawed and slavish adherence to it is illogical.
The relevant county and city councillors are all well aware of this problem, but have not been able to prevent the administrators from persistently kicking the problem into the long grass'.

St Cross Road,
