A SCHOOL in Winchester has donated nearly £15,000 to two homelessness charities based in the city.
The money is being shared between Emmaus Hampshire and Winchester Churches Nightshelter.
It was raised by pupils and their parents at The Pilgrims’ School, which is based in the Cathedral Close.
Much of it came from the school’s summer fete, organised by the Pilgrims’ Parents’ Association and with stalls run by the boys.
The attractions included ‘the stocks’ where teachers bravely volunteered to be pelted with sponges and custard pies for charity.
After the money was raised, pupils at the fee-paying school were asked where the £14,200 pot should be donated.
They voted to split it between Winchester Churches Nightshelter in Jewry Street and Emmaus Hampshire at Bar End.
Michele Price, who runs the nightshelter, came to receive a £7,100 cheque on behalf of the charity, which has room for 17 people per night.
Emmaus Hampshire, which received the rest of the cash and offers shelter and training for up to 23 people, was represented by Alison Thompson.
