IT is all change at St Swithun's, writes Michael Carr.
The Winchester junior school welcomed pupils to its new £10 million building which opened its doors for the first time.
The new C-shaped building features a large glass entrance leading to a two-story atrium, with an inner court yard including a free-flow play area for the younger years, individual work pods and specialist teaching rooms.
Many of the classrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows to take advantage of the views over the South Downs National Park and make the most of natural light.
The work isn't finished yet, as a new performing arts space and gym is set to open in Easter 2016. In the meantime pupils will use the existing hall and gym.
The project will ensure the school can boost its intake from 190 to as many as 260.
St Swithun's Headmistress Pim Grimes said: “The new school is a wonderful building to work and learn in. We have spent the summer preparing and are delighted to have such a wonderful facility for the children. The light floods into the building bringing the outside in.
“We have state of the art facilities and are very proud of what we have achieved; St Swithun's Junior School is a spectacular place to be”
