BEAUTY students have designed weird and wonderful make-up for a Winchester training college's cosmetics competition.

Trainee beauticians at Peter Symonds Adult and Higher Education applied themed face-paint as part of a new course which it is hoped will break them into the theatre business.

Jenna Clayton won first prize for her detailed peacock design, made from scratch over the six-week programme.

The competition will prepare the school leavers and young adults for the next stage of their beauty therapy and hairdressing course.

Nikkii Glaspool, Hair and Beauty Academy tutor, said: “It builds up all their skills and experience if they want to go on and do any sort of theatre work or set up their own business.

“They have lots of fun and boost their skills. Next year we're going to do it really big and invite a lot of different people in - experienced professionals.”
