PRIMARY school children have been listening and learning thanks to a professional performance company.

A fun day saw Winnall Primary School pupils transformed into ‘sonic investigators’, using ear trumpets and stethoscopes to listen to the sounds of their school surroundings.

The children explored every corner of the school, from the playground and dinner hall to the headteacher’s office.

They documented their discoveries and used their research to create an original piece of music.

Performance company Gobbledegook Theatre led the event, which was also supported by Hampshire County Council and Theatre Royal Winchester’s annual outdoor arts festival Hat Fair.

Teacher Helen Barney said: “My Year 3 class had a super day of learning in a fun environment with Gobbledegook. They learnt a lot of new science, literacy and music skills and enjoyed every minute of the day, particularly the bubble machine and dancing.”

Children also enjoyed the vintage-style music laboratory on wheels, called La Cart Musique, which was set up in the playground.

The theatre company is due to perform at Hat Fair, which runs from July 3-5.
