WINCHESTER children were given a football masterclass by the captain of the England team last week.
Kelly Smith visited Oliver’s Battery Primary School, where she led a coaching session with Year 6 pupils.
Kelly is captain of both the England Ladies’ and Arsenal football teams, and has scored almost 150 goals playing at the sport’s highest level.
She also represented her country at the 2012 Olympics.
Kelly took part in a question and answer session, as well as demonstrating her eye-popping dexterity with a football with a string of skills and tricks, including 94 ‘keepy-uppys’.
Kelly started playing football at the age of six with the boys’ team at her school.
She practices every day and follows a strict, healthy diet.
Oliver’s Battery Primary School pupils use the sports facilities at nearby Kings School, where they have recently enjoyed success at football, tag rugby and hockey tournaments.
