CIVIC chiefs have received plans for further works at Hampshire’s first ‘super school’.

The county council has applied to build a footpath to connect two roads near The Westgate School, in Winchester.

Cllr Seàn Woodward, executive member for economy, transport and environment at Hampshire County Council, said it will improve on the recent work there, which provided additional parking and two new school bus stops.

He said: “We have submitted a further planning application to provide a formal, tarmac surfaced footpath that will be a pedestrian link for those pupils arriving at and leaving school from the new designated parking/ bus stop area.

“This will connect the top of the existing Green Lane footpath with the pavement on Chilbolton Avenue and it will remove the need for pupils to walk along the section of Links Road which is shared between vehicles and pedestrians.”

He said some trees will need to be removed and if permission is granted it will be built in April.

The school is currently undergoing major work to become the county’s first through-school, catering for both primary and secondary school children.

The new bus stops and parking spaces will first be used on January 5, Cllr Woodward says.
