A STOCKBRIDGE woman has taken her 12-year-old son to Kenya over half term to do charity work.

It will be Emma Wightman’s third trip there to provide free medical care to women and children in the slums of Nairobi and remote villages of the Maasai Mara.

The osteopath and her son George are there for two weeks, and have taken numerous donations with them.

She said: “When the opportunity arose to travel again to Kenya, I thought hard about whether it was the right time to introduce my oldest child to my work out there. Given the challenging work, security issues and infection risk, I couldn’t just take his enthusiasm and desire to become a doctor as a reason to agree.

“However, after long chats within the family and his school, we all agreed it would be a wonderful opportunity for new experiences and personal development.”
