LONDON 2012 is now less than a year away and children at one Chandler’s Ford school have embraced the Olympic spirit already.
Sherborne House School has been awarded Get Set status in recognition of its commitment to Olympic and Paralympic values.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) awarded Sherborne House School a plaque and certificate to acknowledge its involvement in the London 2012 education programme. Winchester MP Steve Brine visited the school to present the plaque and certificate.
They now join other schools and colleges in the Get Set network and will receive access to exclusive competitions and 2012 Games related opportunities.
To be awarded Get Set status, schools and colleges need to showcase their student-led work around the values via the dedicated ‘Get Set’ blog.
Heather Hopson-Hill, headteacher, at Sherborne House School, said: “We aim to offer a wide range of sporting, artistic, creative and cultural experiences, to help our children grow in confidence, respect and tolerance.”
Mr Brine said: “Pupils at Sherborne House School are excellent examples of how London 2012 is helping to spark young people’s imagination and inspiring them to get involved and make a difference.”
